Country Thyme and Patchwork
It all started in late 2001, when Leanne Bell and Karyn Ogden were
both attending a small sewing group at Belstack Strawberry Farm in
Kialla West. They were vaguely acquainted, but through patchwork,
soon became friends again.
Talk soon started about the lack of Patchwork shop's in the area.
The seed had been planted for Leanne and with the full support of her
husband Neil, she approached Karyn about doing just that.
Karyn's son, Jesse, would be starting school the next year, and
she had been home with babies for several years and thought it would
be the perfect chance to do something that she loved and be flexible
with the kids. So with little convincing, she was in.
So within a few short months a shop had been rented, painted,
sanded and polished. Stock had been purchased and on the 4th January,
2002, Country Thyme Patchwork opened it's doors.
Within 18 months they had outgrown their little rented house in
McLennan Street, so when one of their best customers, Julie Sharpe
ventured into the shop one day and mentioned that if we ever wanted
another partner, she would be all for it.
So, they lost a great customer but gained an even better partner.
The deal was done and the present shop was purchased. Once again the
new shop was sandblasted, painted and polished. Country Thyme
Patchwork was re-opened at it's present location in November,
2003.
The three girls have a great time choosing fabric, patterns and
new books and notions. Never a dull moment, as a lot of their
customers can attest to.
There is always something new to look at as the girls try to have
new samples in the store every few weeks. Heaps of different classes
going on all throughout the year, with their special Girls Day Out
held in May of every year.
Country Thyme Patchwork has gone from strength to strength since
their inception in 2002, and they could not have done it without
their great customers, who have become great friends as well.
They would like to thank you all and hope that all their local customers
enjoy their website just as much as coming into the shop, and the out
of towners, when they get the chance, they will call in and say
hello.
